St John's School

Our Sensory garden won first prize!

So proud to announce that our Sensory Garden won First Prize in the RJA&HS Primary School Competition in the ‘Patio or Courtyard type garden’ category. Huge thanks to the Association of Jersey Charities who provided the funding for the new gazebo which has become a wonderful shelter and outdoor classroom for the children. Thanks also to all involved in the development of the surrounding garden space. Stuart McBrearty worked with the children in the Eco club to formulate ideas for the garden and it is wonderful to see all this work recognized by the judges! The new raised planters were built from the old posts that surrounded the playground and planted with lavender by the school gardening club last year. Special thanks to Lily from Year 3 for talking so brilliantly to the judges about the garden. Fantastic team effort!

Also delighted to announce that our raised vegetable beds won Second Prize in the ‘Vegetable Garden’ category. Huge thanks to Year 2 for helping to dig our potatoes and plant the next crops this year! Special thanks to Luke from Year 2 for talking so knowledgeably to the judges about all the work they had done.

Finally, our pollinator patch won Third Prize in the ‘Wildlife or Environmentally Friendly garden’ category. The judges commented on the diversity of grasses and flowers, all attracting insects and wildlife to the garden!

Thank you to the judges from the RJA&HS for the time you spent with us, and the advice and ideas for our growing spaces! And we look forward to buying something for the Sensory Garden with the voucher from Le Quesne’s Garden Centre in recognition of our First Prize Win!
