St John's School

Return to school January 2021.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you have all had a good Christmas break. I’m sure  you are aware that the Ministers agreed staged processes for reconnecting the Island. This statement  was released yesterday:

Ministers have agreed to introduce a staged process for relaxing the existing COVID measures and for reconnecting the Island’s economy and society. The first stage will see the return of school pupils on Monday 11 January, with all necessary precautions and contact tracing in place.”

As a result of this statement, St John’s School will open on Monday 11th. The times for pupils returning to school remain the same as last term. Please see below:

Start of day:

Yr. 6 – 8:25 a.m.

Yr. Reception and Yr. 3 – 8:30 a.m.

Yr. 5 and Yr. 2 – 8:35 a.m.

Yr. 4 and Yr. 1 – 8:40 a.m.

Nursery – 8:45 a.m.

End of the school day:

Yr. 1 and Yr. 2 – 2:40 p.m.

Nursery 2:45 p.m.

Yr. 5, 4, 3 – 2:50 p.m.

Yr. 6 – 3:00 p.m.

All staff in school have been tested and we are all free from COVID-19. I have updated our Risk Assessment and as a staff,  we have discussed safety awareness and guidelines, new Contact Tracing guidance and updated all letters and correspondence, as well as ways we can keep our entire community as safe as possible. Staff will be wearing visors and sometimes masks as well, and will be maintaining the 2m distance. We will insist on regular handwashing, pupils maintaining distance and keeping to the correct routes through school. Class bubbles will be maintained throughout the day. We will be restricting visitors/ parents into school. There will be no trips or visits at this time. We are required to have good ventilation in classrooms and circulation areas, so please make sure children have their jumpers, cardigans, coats for outside etc. 😊

Home learning will be given if a class moves into isolation? CYPES have agreed that there is no requirement for teachers to incorporate home learning to families who are choosing to keep pupils at home. We are aware of specific families who are shielding long term and this guidance would differ for them.

Another question the Education Department has been asked is - Will schools offer a flexible attendance approach for those who don’t want to return to school? The answer: Schools will be implementing the regular attendance policy in the spring term, so unless absence has been authorised/pupils are ill  or shielding arrangements are in operation, pupils not attending school will be classed as unauthorised.

Mr Fallaize is not in school next week. We have a deputy caretaker in school to support with the rigorous cleaning operations. If you see our deputy caretaker around, especially on morning road crossing duty, please wave and say “hi”.

We look forward to seeing the children next week,

Kind regards,

Trudie De La Haye
